Back in September to we took a ride with my husband to a job interview in Indiana The job would require a lot of traveling and as long as we didn't cause trouble our son and I could join him traveling from job site to job site. My husband does not want to miss out on our son growing up, to find out if life on the road with a toddler would be at all doable we accompanied him to the hotel and back. We did split up the drive which according to map quest was just over 12 hours but map quest does not figure things in like road construction and traffic jams. It was closer to 14 hours. On the way back we spent a night at Mohican State Park in Ohio which was a little further off the beaten path than anticipated. We toyed with some night sky photography and light painting while there. I won't share those pics because I used too high of an ISO and the photos turned out painfully noisy! I toyed with the idea of shooting more once I got our son too sleep but I was so comfy and warm in our sleeping bag I did not want to get back up.. I awoke first in the morning. While the men folk and other campers snoozed I quietly tiptoed out to photograph the morning fog on the Mohican River which flows just the other side of the road from the campsites. It was glorious! It was quiet, except for the sound of nature that I love! I didn't have to worry about what my son was up to either.. I shot the sunlight filtering through the trees, the fog rolling up from the river, a caterpillar on a leaf, rocks and colored leaves, a covered bridge and even a blue heron.! I took my time and was for a moment able to breathe! Eventually everyone woke up and we had a quick breakfast. We visited with neighboring campers who had a little girl just a year older than my son. He had a total blast playing with her and children of a few other campers while we tore camp down. We were going to do a quick hike to a waterfall there too but our little guy out right refused wanting to go back to play. Rather than fight with him we just hopped back in the car and headed home as we didn't have much time to spare anyhow. Mohican State Park in Ohio is a "do again" place and would be especially beautiful right about now with all the colorful leaves bursting out! We did not get to explore Indiana much, but it is not quite as flat as I had anticipated. We did arrive earlier the day before the interview and discovered Monroe Res. which has two small playgrounds! The Hoosier National Forest wasn't too far away but we needed to head back right after the interview. It does look like it could be a really interesting area to explore though, someday! |
