There was a nice young chap working at the West Branch at the campground during our stay in Ohio that befriended my husband. I did not get to do much research before departing on this trip so my answer to the question what do we do next was, "I don't know." My husband went in and asked the young man about things to do in the area and he suggested Kennedy Ledges State Park! Needless to say my husband loved it proclaiming the place a climbers paradise. He did wish our son was older and more independent to get down into the tight pathways and caves. We hiked the easy route since backpacking our son made impossible to squeeze through the passageways, although I think I am too fat to fit anyways. So we walked around above and looked down into most of the crevices and did enter a few caves. There is no overnight camping in this park but it does have a nice picnic area to make a nice full day trip! I have to admit this place is very nice and great for adventurous types! Click on the photos below are some shots from our Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park of Ohio excursion. After playing with the Engine 765 during the Steam in the Valley tour we decided to try to find the Ledges Area and explore its unique geology! We got lost of course trying to find it. I guess there is more than one way to have an adventure! Anyway in our head scratching search we discovered Everett Covered Bridge. It was a tough shoot due to the angle of the sun but I did manage to get a few decent shots. The other issue was people wandering all over my shot. I really don't like photographing people especially people I do not know (don't need to get sued for posting pics of them on the web)!
That was our downfall as we only had one headlamp for the three of us and we did not know our way back. We should have followed the other people when they left. We could hear the road not far away so my husband wanted to backtrack down the trail and cut through the woods. I wanted to cut across a field that I was pretty sure take us to the parking lot. We started down the field but my husband made us turn around and go back down the trail. Everything kept telling me we were going the wrong way! Tempers flared a bit, the trail and way my husband wanted to go was too treacherous. So I suggested cutting across the field to get to the road, he gave in. We didn't get to the road but we did find the parking lot with our car! Park police arrived doing their rounds as we pulled out to find dinner and return to camp (don't worry I had given snacks to our son while there). Below you can see some to the treasures of the Ledges, hope you enjoy!
